About us - Introduction

Łukasiewicz Research Network - Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry Branch Pszczyna (Łukasiewicz - IPO) is a leading research and development centre with more than 70 years of tradition which performs a wide variety of toxicological and ecotoxicological studies. The Łukasiewicz - IPO conducts studies for companies worldwide, cooperates with both domestic and foreign research units as well as actively participates in the international EU and OECD research projects. The aim of the studies mentioned above is to evaluate possible harmful effects of various chemical substances on human health, animals and the natural environment. During the last 70 years the Institute has developed and established its position as one of the best-known research centers at home and abroad.

The certificates owned by the Łukasiewicz Research Network - Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry, Branch Pszczyna entitle it to conduct complex toxicological and ecotoxicological studies in compliance with the Act on Chemical Substances and Preparations.

The Łukasiewicz Research Network - Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry, Branch Pszczyna was appointed by the Minister of Health and Social Care to cooperate with the Inspector for Chemical Substances in the range of the assessment of harmful effects of chemical substances on people and the environment (Dz. U. Nr 121, pozycja 1308 z 2001r.§ 3 pkt.1, załącznik z dn. 09.04.2002r.).

The laboratories of the Łukasiewicz Research Network - Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry, including the Branch in Pszczyna are registered by the European Commission as competent and entitled to conduct the tests required by the Regulation (EC) No. 648/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council.

The Łukasiewicz Research Network - Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry, Branch Pszczyna has the entitlement to conduct experiments on animals. It is relevant to mention that all experiments performed on vertebrates require obtaining the approval of the Local Ethical Committee for Animal Experimentation which the ŁUKASIEWICZ - Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry applies for when the need arises, i.e. every time when it is ordered to conduct such studies.

Scientific studies conducted at the Łukasiewicz Research Network - Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry, Branch Pszczyna are recognized and valued in Poland and abroad. As a result, it has already cooperated with various companies from different European countries, including Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland, Great Britain, France, the Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Austria and the Slovak Republic as well as non-European ones, e.g. Australia, Japan, the United States, the Republic of South Africa and Israel.

Most important events

1947The Experimental-Research Station of Pesticides of the Azot Chemical Plant in Jaworzno and the Laboratory of Potato Beetle Biology and Control were founded in the place of the former School of Rural Household in Pszczyna.
1951The Experimental-Research Station of Pesticides was transferred to the Institute of Dyes and Semi-Manufactured Articles in Warsaw.
1957The Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry in Pszczyna was founded as one of four branches of the main Institute of Industrial Organic Chemistry in Warsaw.
1960The following two research departments were founded:
  • Department of Pesticide Biological Effectiveness Evaluation
  • Department of Pesticide Side-Effects.
